In my experience, hanging around in bars is usually a pretty bad way to start rumours or fish for information. The reason for that is because you're talking to drunks. This may be high magic Mercy is performing right here if her bar crawl actually constitutes a useful form of search/research into the activities of Starry Wisdom.

I am not commenting on any complicated information gathering ritual Mercy may partake of that involves casting one's name into the aether as bait for one's search...
I will also not comment on everything being connected to everything else in one way or another.
What I will do is recommend one returns to this comic to see the fruits of Ms. Black's labors! :)

Her investigations often include drinking, even when others might be able to do it without drinking...
