So that's what Ms. Black has to say about Havenport, New York...

As previously mentioned, Mercy trusts Vincent. There is a reason she mentions Dunwich. "Mama" Genevieve Delacroix has yet to make her grand appearance, but some people have seen her already.

Hmm. That's certainly an interesting symbol on that building in the first panel.

I second Seabiscuit. Genevieve looks rad. Of course, part of that might be that I like dreadlocks and think they're way cool.

Well, I don't want to give away too much, but you can find some things out here. :)

Geez Mercy, this is the biggest reason smoking is bad for you: It leaves a trail to follow and makes you hang out in visible places while the scum of the earth stares back at you looking for their chance to get a piece. That'll kill ya much quicker than emphysema, cardio-pulmonary disease or cancer of the mouth, throat and lungs.

Meh, Mercy can handle all those things... :P

A bad habit only has to kill you once to be lethally bad.

I'm always tempted to click on your reference links, but they seem spoilery.. so I don't

In this case, the three links in the comment are: 1) 7 comics back in the archives; 2) One of the more famous works by H.P. Lovecraft, and; 3) Another pic of Genevieve along with a brief description of some of her general character history, circumstances and tendencies.
Of the three, I'd agree the third is at least arguably a bit of a spoiler. I often ask questions about these things to help establish characters and the setting because it's not a plot spoiler.

My question (and anyone can feel free to answer this): is it a spoiler if it is available in the open (especially in this case when it has been there for close to a year)?

I view "spoilers" as things that reveal information ahead of it's time, and disrupt the flow of the narrative, thus "spoiling" the setup the writer was attempting to construct. If it's readily available information, it would be less of a spoiler, and educating someone who overlooked an important clue is NOT a spoiler.

In other words, unless you are pointing us to something we would never have thought to look at--not a spoiler.

Short answer: It's a matter of personal opinion.
Many moons ago, when I was first disappointed by The Phantom Menace, I told a friend that Senator Palpatine becomes Emperor Palpatine. I guessed it by knowing the Emperor's name from having played certain Star Wars games and noting the similar appearance of Senator and Emperor Palpatine. He decided that was a spoiler, and was at least arguably right about it.
More generally: Character, setting and event information outside of the work in question may, or may not, be considered a spoiler according to personal taste and what is disclosed (and also sequence order for sequential works). It ties into the general questions of how much information to share in a story, and when, to make it appropriately consistent, adequately coherent, appropriately comprehensible, and enjoyable. That can be a non-specific target because of the conflicting desires of those who like surprises more and those who try to think ahead, around, into the background details, and to predict things. These differing interests cause much of the differences of opinion on the appropriateness of outside information.
'The death of the author' and avoiding all sharing of secondary information/interpretation is often considered the best practice, for a number of reasons. In cases where there is secondary information available I'd usually recommend putting it in clearly subdivided and labeled supplementary sections. That makes it easier for people who want more information to specifically seek out exactly as much as they want, and no more. There can be significant problems with that approach though, not the least of which being how much work it takes to get it right. Lastly, trying to balance the information question in a comments section also is... pretty much impossible.

Personally, I like to predict where a story is going and dig at the details of the characters and setting for a variety of reasons. Because of that I'm not bothered by anything I can recall you sharing in your notes to date. Still, I completely understand the desire to avoid all secondary information sources.

I will never link to something that is a direct spoiler of an Autumn Bay plot twist. MOST of the links are to previous comics, so definitely no spoilers there. When I DO link to outside things, that can be considered fair play material anyway. :)
