By and large, most magical types don't have problems with the MiBs. However, certain people *cough Mercy cough* occasionally call attention to themselves while going about their business...

In a town like Autumn Bay, it pays to know who's in the strange category you suddenly find yourself in (if you are a sorcerer like Ghoul, for example). Things can go sideways at a moment's notice, and Mercy wants to be sure that Ghoul knows where to run.

You coming? :)

Nope. Not at all...

I am in no way saying this because she'd beat me up... Not at all...

Are Dr. Armstrong and Ms. Black contemporaries/peers? I get that impression from the "you're not my BFF" comment.

It is entirely possible that Dr. Armstrong's management style would make you cringe/grind your teeth. She is Mercy's boss.

Mercy gets results, and this translates to a lot of leeway.

As long as things don't go pear-shaped, the shadowy council that runs the Shadowlight League lets Dr. Armstrong run things her way.

This isn't [REDACTED], after all. Those guys are government-funded...

A lot of leeway in the "more rope to hang yourself" sorta way, or a lot of leeway in the "I trust her implicitly" sorta way? [edit: this is *my* management style too]

I think I know who REDACTED is, yes, I'd assume that access to that level of firepower (literal and personality-wise)would make their supervisors keep them on a tight leash (figuratively).

The latter. Mercy will do a lot of things, but her loyalty to Gabrielle, the Shadowlight, the mission, and the world in general are never in question as far as she is concerned.

And I see. No problems with how Dr. Armstrong runs things, then...

I'm prety sure you know who [REDACTED] is, too. Your assessment is not inaccurate...

Is that list of loyalties in order of precedence, or is it more "fluid"?

"[REDACTED]" could mean either [REDACTED] or [REDACTED], both of whom sport a "Federal Black" fashion sense; unless there's another group of which we are yet unaware...

Definitely fluid. It's a more general list of where Gabrielle sees Mercy's loyalties to be on the whole.

Believe me, we are just getting started as far as [REDACTED] groups go... :P (You expected that, right?)

Huh, wait, Ghoul is now signed on with Mercy in a mistress-apprentice deal? Learning about magic from a person whose specialty is making trouble could be particularly... eventful.

...which ship are we trying to sail there? Ghoul and Dr. Armstrong?

I meant THIS Simon and Garfunkel reference, for what it's worth...

There are two kinds of learning: academic and worldly. Mercy provides both. :)

Troublemaking IS a needed skill set in magic, of course! :'D

Well, yes. Some people are less than altruistic with their use of magic, and there are things that like to intrude on our world that do not belong here.

Plus, Mercy really enjoys the look on the faces of MiBs when they have to bend her ear...

Lots of goodness in this page, Prof. Sophie, you don't look so much "suspicious" as "pissed" - probably in the manner Gabby is treating your mentor, or vice versa. Mercy, OTOH, is shooting daggers at Gabby out of her Evil Eyes... lol

Mercy does things her own way. The fact that her way brings trouble is not (always) her fault.

(I think it could get... interesting if she met June...) :P
