Alright, a little bit to unpack here.

First and foremost, mythology has a crap-ton of people being turned into things against their will. Usually, this was the work of this or that deity.

There is no concrete evidence in the world of Autumn Bay that anyone was ever turned into a newt or frog or such by a witch.

However, there is evidence that the legendary wizard Merlin did, in fact, exist and was, in fact, very powerful.

Why does this evidence exist? Because the Shroud has existed in one form or another since at least the Pax Romana. The majority of their records are still intact (though some bits of data have occasionally gone missing).

In the end, it would seem that, for the present time, they will not be able to help Bishop, short of locating a friendly deity or perhaps a djinn...

So, basically the plutocrat-that-be just co-opted a Society that already existed and slapped a merc shell on it?

Seems to me that the Shroud is closer in nature to Shadowlight, than, say, to Blackwater. Does that mean that it's name comes from where I now think it comes from? O.o

The Shroud is closest in nature to, say, the Knights Templar meets Majestic-12, with a side of Freemasons thrown in for good measure.

You are correct that they are closer to Shadowlight, but they tend to have more temporal power. They achieve this by insinuating themselves into already extant power structures and recruiting from within.

As to your other question, where, prey tell, do you think it comes from?

(And they do not refer to themselves as "the Shroud", just for the record.)

Geographically, what is the scope of the Shroud anyway? I mean, them existing in the Roman Empire (and post-Roman medieval Britain, it seems) might suggest that today they don't solely operate in the USA, or even just Autumn Bay alone.

Also, I hope they warn Director Shelby beforehand about Bishop's "condition". After all, you don't want him to rudely ask: "What is this kid doing in my office!?" ;-)

To varying degrees (depending on various geopolitical and other factors), they have global reach (which really opens up crossover possibilities). What they are allowed to do with that reach also varies.

At some point, we will (in some form or another) get into more detail, but suffice to say that the Shroud has been involved with various investigations into the paranormal throughout their history, with an often less-than-savory methodology. They were, for instance, involved with the Inquisition.)

As funny as it may be for him to ask that, Shelby has been informed.

For certain, "The Shroud" has a big, China-sized hole in their influence. I'm not saying that is the only place they have no influence, but it is certainly the largest and most noticeable.

Undercover ops are a definite possibility. Of course, Bishop will have to grow accustomed to the new body first...

If I were turned into a teenage girl, I would take quite a while -investigating- my new body... lol

@ sig: It seems to me that there would be a "freakout" on some level first. Then, after acceptance sinks in, the... err... exploration begins.

At any rate, I can't imagine this is going to be good for Bishop's post-traumatic stress.

@ Centy: Sadly, shower time is not what we are concentrating on in this work. I will leave such things to the imagination and the Rule 34 crowd... :P

(Note: we at Autumn Bay Comics are not prudes. It's just that this work has a certain tone, feel, and focus we are trying to achieve.)
