Well, okay, the pleasantries are out of the way, so let's get down to the serious verbal dancing around....
Personally, I don't feel that using a reference is a disqualifier or a bad thing even if someone traces part or all of it. In your case, you have firmly established your bona fides as a serious artist, and looking at a reference in no way degrades that.

Seriously though, this is a meeting I've looked forward to for a very long time.
So how, exactly, do they end up here at the same time? Well, Professor Stanton is the mentor to Dr. Gabrielle Armstrong, who is, of course, the head of the Autumn Bay branch of the Shadowlight League. Professor Stanton told Gabrielle, who sent out Mercy, arguably her best field agent. Meanwhile, the good Professor also contacted the Shroud, since he once [REDACTED] and, since then, they have kept an eye on him. He doesn't want to get on their bad side.
Being an actual member of the British intelligence community, Kadira can't help but pull the James Bond routine for those who probably already know (or can easily enough find out). And Mercy is all about calling out cheeky behavior like that...
