Back to business. I'm figuring they have him in a magic-suppressor field or they fed/injected him with something that negates his magic ability. If he's the scamp they make him out to be, surey he knows some tricks to make THEM pretty uncomfortable, also.

The veil could also be referred to as the masquerade, or kayfabe, or a number of other ways. It's simply the most commonly used term in Autumn Bay.
The "Shroud" are so called because of the veil. The rule about "magic and muggles don't mix" is often stated "don't pierce the veil".
Bishop is using the time-honored interrogation technique of putting your subject on defense. As we will see, he has a distinct reason for that.

I'm not saying it's off the table. Harper could keep pissing him off, after all...
