I concede that the struggle against the Elder Gods is an ongoing one. So far, the best we, being humanity, have been able to hope for has been pushing it back. Like this page, for example.
Perhaps one day, we will be more successful. Or, perhaps, we won't.
Either way, the struggle is here and now.
(Also, don't forget that Nestor had to move up the timeline. He didn't HAVE an extra thirty-five minutes. Love the reference, though!)

Nestor's just our fall guy. To paraphrase what Mariah Carey said about Jennifer Lopez (yes, she's so obviously one of ours) "We don't know him." (Well, actually both of them and most of Hollywood, actually, how else did you think they all got famous?). This is just a side-show.
In fact, with everybody stuck in a perpetual grind of working to earn to only barely stay afloat to the point where it consumes every waking moment (and cuts very short the sleeping ones), the fact is, we actually ate all your souls some time ago.
We won, and some time ago at that. We already rule your planet through a combination of the UN, the Bilderburg Group, the Illuminati and the US Department of Commerce.
Ozzie knew where it's at but to really drive the point home, let's hear from Arnim.

Dr. Arnim Zola: Accidents will happen. HYDRA created a world so chaotic that humanity is finally ready to sacrifice its freedom to gain its security. Once the purification process is complete, HYDRA's New World Order will arise. We won, Captain. Your death amounts to the same as your life, a zero sum!"
