Deep conspiracy is honestly kind of a pedestrian concept at this point. Kid needs to get on their level.

Indeed, conspiracy is an inadequate term for something as ridiculously huge and Orwellian class thought policing as this.

He's new to this. He'll learn. :)

It is important to note that this particular conspiracy is a necessary evil.

Wouldn't t be something if we could see their point of view in this whole mess?

And AC is right on at least one front. It is ridiculously huge.

Sure, let's see what comes of involving the 'muggles' in a magical gang war. Go ahead and call the people who are supposed to stop that from ever happening for permission while you're at it, too. What's the worst that can happen?

It is far better to call them for permission. Less of your people disappear that way. Plus, it's just polite. Also, you don't have to tell them all the details...

Involving "muggles" is a final option, but is sometimes necessary. And it happens more than the Shroud is comfortable with. The key is in getting them not to tell people about it.

The worst? Undisclosed locations start having less room for "guests"... or they straight fail and all life as we know it is devoured by qliphothic entities. (Yes, that is synonymous with Lovecraftian horror in the AB cosmos, one of a good number of syncretisms floating around in the background here).

Oh dear, you're positing a consensus subjective cosmology, I.E. where too many people knowing of and believing in things that go bump in the night will shatter the world as people know it? I suppose if you really need a non-abusive reason to keep most people ignorant of magic that works.

Jeez, AC, I don't know why you're getting so worked up about this. It's very easy:

MAGIC.
DOES.
NOT.
EXIST.

lirv, a few things.

1) SAYS. YOU. :P

2) Something something suspension of disbelief.

3) Something something intellectual exercise.

That is all... for now. :P

From the atheist perspective, God doesn't exist... except that He does in the minds of His (Her?) followers, large volumes of text, architecture and other culture. Understanding the assumptions and belief structure that a system of thought operates in is necessary to understanding and predicting it, whether we're talking about military doctrine, religious doctrine, political doctrine, or what the heck is going on in a work of fiction. :)

So is this Autumn Bay's version of the "No Such Agency"?

In a way, yes... The Shroud are the faceless overlords of the MiBs, have their eyes almost everywhere, and have enormous reach.

By the same token, they have eyes on them.
