I have it on good authority from people who work dangerous psych wards that there is one sure way to physically control even the most furious of dangerous headcases: Six or so people move in, each one assigned a limb or the head to grab on to and hold extended, and extras in case someone gets hurt too badly before they can get theirs. Most of the risk of this approach is that someone gets bit, kicked or punched before they get a firm grasp on their assigned chunk of anatomy.
I'm surprised it isn't already over for Mercy if fists can work. If fists can work, then hands gripping ought to as well unless there's some anti-grip or anti-capture ward in the mix.

To be fair, that requires professionals working in tandem. If these cultists were more with it, she would be well and truly sacrificed at the next available "stars are right".
Also, she has quite a few wards in the mix. They are, all of them, on a timer, but there are a good few helping her evade. Also, they are helping her hit harder than them (she is a normal human woman, sorcerer notwithstanding, and not possessed of abnormal strength).
That being said, all it takes for her to be an ex-Mercy is for someone to have a very, very good day.

It requires people with a coordinated plan and assigned roles, not necessarily professional specialists: "Grab on and pull straight," is not rocket surgery. It's a glaring failure of leadership and coordination that this crew can't manage that, if they can't.
On the other hand, an uncoordinated mob attacking a single person can be as much a danger to the individual people in the mob as that person. People getting tripped and trampled is just the top of the list of problems there.

@ Fabian: Contrary to popular belief, not all religious gatherings in the US feature guns.
@ lirvilas and Fabian: Cults that tend to the dark side are often tied up with guns. See: the Manson family, the People's Temple, the Branch Davidian (yes, yes... ATF messup and all...)

Trying to swing your fists in the middle of a crowd is a bit of a problem, and you can find yourself blindsided--which she did.
Wards and charms are all very well, but a good area-effect offensive weapon is a better opening move. :)
On the technical side, those are some sweet magic effects. Is it my imagination, or are they becoming easier for you now? They seem more fluid, somehow. :)

Hopefully, she can recover from this slip-up...
Yeah, area-effect may have been a better way to go, but she chose her opening and now has to live (and/or die) with it...
And THANKS! The effects are kind of my pride and joy. They are the part I can really jam on, and they usually come out the best of all my stuff... It's actually kind of relaxing when I get to the effects portions, somehow.

There is a very real danger in being the lone person against a group, one which sometimes outweighs the benefit of being able to hit and kick anyone and not have to worry about it being a friend...
Next: Blam!
